Instruction treasure hunt

This week we have been thinking about the language used in instructions. Today Team Brown and Team Szydlowski went up against each other. We hid some treasure somewhere outside and then wrote some instructions for the other team to use to find the treasure.

Lit was great fun and both groups wrote and followed the instructions very well. image image image image image image image image image image

Fabulous flight in Years 1 & 2!

What a wonderful afternoon we’ve had! The children have explored flight by following instructions and making their own paper aeroplanes out of different kinds paper. They were able to talk about what paper would be the best and why. Lots of other activities were happening in the class including making something that can fly out of Lego and designing their own planes.

Thank you to everyone that entered the Science competition, the winner will be announced on Friday in High flyers.

Dinosaurs!

The children had a big surprise when they walked into the classroom...dinosaur eggs! The children tried to find the quickest way to get the dinosaurs out of the eggs without hurting them. The radiators were very popular. Some of the dinosaurs were quickly freed but it took all day for some of them to hatch out. The children also searched for high frequency words written on bones that hidden in the sand. They then used these in sentences. The children have really enjoyed starting their dinosaur learning today. Can you think of any more dinosaur activities?

The children tried all sorts of ways to get the dinosaurs out of the ice. The toasty warm radiators were very popular and worked well. It didn’t take long to free some of the dinosaurs using this method.

The children looked through information books about dinosaurs. They were challenged to find fascinating facts about dinosaurs. The children were very good at naming some of the dinosaurs – they even correctly named the toy dinosaurs in the dinosaur cave.

Mark Making Art

This term the children have been exploring different ways of making marks. They looked at the work of artists and then experimented with different tools and methods. As an activation, the children went outside to explore the pendulum method. They loved watching the paint pour out of the cup as it swung.
