Over the half term there aren’t any spellings to practice.
Instead, please practice reading phonics sounds and real and nonsense words from the pack given at the beginning of the year. You can also find loads of real and nonsense words on the Internet, including games to play.

Year 2 Half Term Homework

Dear Parents,

Over half term we would like you to encourage your child to read as much as possible!

On Friday 8th June we have an author coming into school to carry out workshops with the children and inspire their own story writing.

There will be no homework tests on this day.

Year 1 Homework for 25.05.28

Spellings –

This week we will not be testing a set of spellings. Instead, in preparation for the phonics screening test after half term please practice reading lots of real and nonsense words. These can be found online.

Science Day –
If you would also like to get involved with our Science Day on 25th May please speak to your child’s class teacher. The day will start at 10.00am, parents will need to make their own arrangements for lunch, but are welcome back in the afternoon to continue our exciting day with us!
Please can you provide your child with a spare pair of shoes (trainers, wellies) as we will be working outdoors. Also a sun hat, sun cream etc. depending on the weather.
Unfortunately younger siblings will not be able to join us for the science day.

Phonics
We are continuing to consolidate the children’s knowledge of phase 3 and 5 sounds, focussing on blending sounds to read words and segmenting words to spell.
This week we will be completing a practice phonics screening check.

Maths
Next week we are going to be working on numbers to 100, focusing on recognising and writing, greater and smaller and addition using tens and ones.

Year 2 Homework due in 25.5.18

Dear Parents,

We are still in need of helpers for our trip to the ridge next Tuesday afternoon at 1.30pm. If you are available to help us walk to the ridge to sketch our landscape paintings please let your child’s class teacher know as soon as possible. Without sufficient adult support this learning opportunity will not be able to go ahead.

We apologise if your child’s SeeSaw was not updated with their test scores this week. We have had a few technical issues but all will be resolved for next week.

Year 1 Homework for 18.05.18

Spellings –

Our new spellings will be tested on Friday 18th May 2018.

Landscape photos
For our Art Learning Journey we are going to focus on creating landscape paintings. Please could your child bring in a photo of a landscape that they have visited (on a day out, holiday etc.). These will be used an an engaging way for the children to link their learning to their lives.
The landscape photos need to be brought into school by Monday 14th May 2018, with your child’s name on the back.

Phonics
We are continuing to consolidate the children’s knowledge of phase 3 and 5 sounds, focussing on blending sounds to read words and segmenting words to spell. We will also be working on comprehension skills, so the children are able to comprehend and discuss what they have read.

Maths
Next week we are going to be working on time. We will be focusing on using the terms o’clock and half past to read and write different times. We will also be doing simple word problems, such as adding on 2 hours to make a new time.

Year 2 Homework due in 18.5.18

Dear Parents,

The spelling homework this week involves changing verbs from the present tense to the past tense.

e.g.

cooking = cooked

playing = played

We will be giving the children a random selection of verbs, that include verbs that do not follow the -ed suffix rule. For example:

swimming = swam

going = went

reading = read

 

The maths homework is a continuation from last week as we will be sitting the maths SATs paper 2 next week.

Please don’t forget to send your child in with a picture of a landscape for our Art Learing Journey next week.

Year 2 Homework due in 11.5.18

Dear Parents,

Thank you for sending in the baby photos as the children loved sharing them in class. For our next learning journey we are looking at landscapes in art and would like the children to share some of their own photos or images of places they have visited. This may be a photo of the seaside, a mountain, sunset or other landscape e.g:

 Please could they be handed in by Monday 14th May.

Next week in spelling we are focusing on plurals and words ending in -s and -es.

The spellings will be:

dresses, churches, boxes, pulleys, wheels

 

The maths homework will not be tested for the next two weeks. Please use this time to help your children be prepared for their arithmetic SATs tests, which will be taking place in the next couple of weeks.

They need to practice the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
